ReSharper 4.5 Beta Released
March 13th, 2009 by Jura GorohovskyYour wait is almost over: ReSharper 4.5 has gone public beta, and the official release is just a few weeks away!
After significantly expanding the set of ReSharper features in previous releases, we’ve shifted focus to the issues of performance and memory usage. Making the tool more agile, robust and responsive was our main goal when developing ReSharper 4.5.
ReSharper 4.5 brings a wide-ranging set of improvements that go way beyond performance enhancements:
- Performance and memory consumption: When working on large solutions, you’ll feel a great deal of difference between ReSharper 4.0 and 4.5.
- New solution-wide warnings and suggestions: Analyze usage of non-private types and type members within your whole solution.
- Visual Basic 9 support: ReSharper’s cross-language refactorings and editing experience enhancements now provide support for VB9 code.
- Extended setup for naming conventions, which are now supported by all ReSharper features.
- New Inline Field refactoring and enhancements in existing refactorings.
- Go to Implementation: Go from usage of a class or method straight to its end implementation, bypassing abstract classes and/or interfaces.

Could you write about the new naming convention support? Specifically, I would really like to change the auto-generated event handler names to match the Visual Studio convention ([ObjectName]_[EventName] instead of new ReSharper convention of [ObjectName]On[EventName]).
I couldn’t find a way to change this in ReSharper options.

Unfortunately, installing the beta has removed the Resharper color entries from the Fonts and Colors Options dialog. So I no longer have my customised color scheme. Choosing the repair option on the Installer does not fix this

The StyleCop For ReSharper plugin is also available now and is compatible with the 4.5 beta at http://stylecopforresharper.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=25372

Hi, I currently have a developer license for version 4.1 of ReSharper. I was wondering does this license cover version 4.5?

I installed this (for the first time). Running VS 2008 on Vista x64 on a Dell laptop with T7300 @ 2GHz and 4GB memory. Only running one instance of VS and it is unusably slow, for example everytime i type: type x = new … i end up with new(); because the intellisense takes about a second to bring up the type suggestion. Needs to be about 350% faster before I’d consider using/paying for it. Dont like how Ctrl+Left Click has been hijacked. Hate (passionately) the “” () [] autocompletion thing. Try again for 5.0…
