ReSharper Tips and Tricks Video from NDC

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

We at JetBrains have recently visited the awesome NDC conference. In addition to booth activities and regular sessions (which you can download from the official NDC web site), Hadi Hariri has presented a semi-impromptu session called ReSharper Tips and Tricks that we know that some of you wanted to attend (and hopefully attended.) The session was recorded and kindly provided to us by the organizers, and is now available on JetBrains TV.

Since the complete session is worth an hour of video, and we only expect selected geeks to handle it in its entirety, we decided to also make several parts of it available as standalone videos, and we have five of them, namely:

Please watch and learn things about ReSharper that you probably haven’t known before!

Priceless: Online ReSharper Training from Pluralsight

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Our good friends at Pluralsight have today made available their brand new online ReSharper training course.

How cool is that?!

Specifically, the course is the offspring of Pluralsight expert and JetBrains Academy Board member James Kovacs (@jameskovacs on twitter).

Hats off to this courageous evangelist!

This course covers everything you need to know to become a proficient ReSharper user: navigation, code analysis and coding assistance, refactorings, code cleanup, code generation and templates, unit testing, internationalization, and technology-specific ways to use ReSharper efficiently, including its capabilities in ASP.NET/ASP.NET MVC, XML, WPF, Silverlight, MSBuild & NAnt. James even talks JavaScript and CSS support, which will only be available in the upcoming ReSharper 6.

This course is a great value for everyone, and here’s why:

  • If you have just recently started using ReSharper, or if you haven’t yet taken the time to dive into the multitude of its features, you simply owe it to yourself to take this excellent course.
  • If you’re staying away from ReSharper because you think it’s no better than plain Visual Studio, this course will challenge you to think out of the box - and perhaps be converted.
  • Even if you’re a long-time ReSharper user, we bet you’ll see some exciting things about the tool that you never knew existed.

Anyway, taking this online ReSharper training course may very well be one of the best possible ways to invest your time. Even more so considering that Pluralsight provides a free 200-minute trial, and their monthly single-user subscription stands at as low as $29. And if this wasn’t enough, the guys at Pluralsight are preparing a special offer for everyone interested in ReSharper, so watch closely for more announcements very soon!

Screencast Contests Extended Until September 16!

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

As you know, we’ve got two screencast contests going on at JetBrains TV, and we’re giving out FREE passes to DevCon London and JAX London 2010 to top 10 screencast submitters in each of these contests.

The problem is that we haven’t received enough submissions. Considering that, both screencast contests are extended until September 16!. The new date for announcing winners is September 17.

That means, there’s an additional week for you to submit new screencasts to JetBrains TV and win free passes!

See contest rules and requirements for DevCon London 2010 Screencast Contest and JAX London 2010 Screencast Contest.

Submit a Screencast to JetBrains.TV and Win a Free Pass to DevCon London 2010!

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Some great things are happening here at JetBrains.

First of all, we have just revealed the very first Beta of JetBrains TV, the definitive resource for videos on JetBrains products and best development practices. Hadi’s got to say a little bit more about it.

Second, we thought if we now have a resource for videos, why not use it straight away to leverage the power of community?

We have 10 passes to the upcoming DevCon London conference that will be held in London, UK, on Septeber 27-29 featuring Scott Allen, Ted Neward, Neal Ford, Greg Young, Ian Cooper, Dino Esposito, Hadi Hariri, Carl Franklin, Richard Campbell, and other renowned speakers. Each of the 2-day passes that we’re giving away is worth £549. You can get one of them pretty easily.

Update! The contest is extended until September 16!

All you need to do for a chance to get a free DevCon London pass is create and share a short screencast about any feature (or features) in any of JetBrains .NET tools: ReSharper, dotTrace, or dotCover. Make sure to submit your screencast to JetBrains TV no later than on September 16. You can highlight your favorite feature, come up with a set of tips and tricks, or make a short task-specific tutorial: be creative in choosing the content of your screencast! If you had previously created a screencast at another video hosting site, you’re free to submit it to JetBrains TV and you’ll be eligible for the contest - just provide a link to the original video location and help us make sure that you’re the author of the original video.

We’ll pick 10 winners on September 17 and provide them with a promotion code that will enable them to visit DevCon London absolutely free of charge!

With this contest, we’re mostly targeting UK developers but if you live elsewhere and you’re willing to land in London on September 28 and 29, you’re very much welcome to take part!

Contest Rules:

  • You publish your screencast (or several screencasts, if you will) at JetBrains TV no later than on September 16. Please use your JetBrains Account to log in there.
  • We will choose best submitted screencasts via internal vote.
  • We will announce 10 winners on September 17 and provide them with free DevCon London passes.

Requirements:

  • JetBrains TV accepts videos in the following file formats: mp4, mpeg, avi, mpg, wmv, flv, and mov. Make sure to export your video to one of these formats.
  • Use 4:3 aspect ratio for better publishing quality.
  • Publish your screencast to a channel that corresponds to the product it’s about: ReSharper, dotCover, or dotTrace.
  • Make sure to mark your screencast with tag DevCon 2010 Screencast Contest.

Recommendations:

  • Please showcase current versions of JetBrains products. By current versions, we mean ReSharper 5.0 or later, dotTrace 4 Performance Beta 3 or later, and dotCover 1.0 Beta or RC.
  • Silent screencasts are fine but we’d prefer voiceover.
  • Recommended resolutions: 1024*768 or 800*600.
  • Try to limit screencast duration to 5 minutes.

You are free to create your screencasts using any screencasting tool (Camtasia, Captivate - hey, there are lots of them) and make them available via JetBrains TV.

By the way, we’re also raffling 10 passes to JAX London that will be held in the same venue in the same time with DevCon. If you want to get there too, you can submit a screencast about IntelliJ IDEA (or another IntelliJ-based IDE) as well. See details on the IntelliJ IDEA Blog.

Looking forward to your contributions!

JetBrains TV: It’s here…

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

For some time now, we’ve had requests from the community to have a central point where people could have access to Screencasts and other Video related material that we provide. In response to that, we are happy to announce the availability of JetBrainsTV (Beta!).

The content is organized by Channels, currently one per product, although we will be expanding that to include other topics in the near future. Most of this content, if not all, is tagged with keywords, allowing you to easily locate topics you are interested in. In addition, the cross-cutting nature of the tags allow you to discover new things, for instance functionality that you knew existed in IntelliJ but weren’t aware that ReSharper also provided.

Content can be voted and commented on, neither of which require you to create an account. Voting is anonymous and comments can be left as a Guest user or using other social media accounts such as Twitter, Disqus or OpenId (obviously based on level of Spam we might have to adjust this in the future).

Contributing content

JetBrains TV is not only a platform to offer centralized screencasts, but also a chance for community members to contribute. By signing in (click on the link in the top right-hand corner), you can upload your own videos, thus providing you with a platform for other community members to see your work.

The sign-up process is easy, in fact, you might not even need to create an account, as it uses the consolidated JetBrains account. If you’ve contributed to the forums or the JetBrains developer
community in the past, you’re good to go!

Although it is still in Beta, there’s quite a lot of content on there already and we hope that by opening it up to the community early, we can improve things based on your valuable feedback.

Enjoy!

PS. To support our love for dogfooding we’ve implemented the TV site with PHP and Drupal using PhpStorm IDE. PhpStorm team has received a good bunch of feedback they wanted.
