We at JetBrains are very much interested in all sorts of modern programming languages, and a couple of developers from the IntelliJ IDEA team, Peter Gromov and Ilya Sergey, decided to participate in the conference.
The First International Erlang eXchange 2008 will be held on June 26th-27th. Aimed at Erlang Architects, Programmers, Project managers, Software and Platform Innovators, existing Erlang users as well as Erlang newbies and anyone interested in Erlang, concurrent and sequential programming, the Erlang eXchange 2008 promises to be an event not to be missed!

Are you guys planning to develop an Erlang plugin for IntelliJ? I was thinking of doing this as an rainy day project, but if the experts are looking into this, then I might wait for the real thing.

No, at the moment we don’t plan to develop an Erlang plugin.

Hopefully, the conference will nudge you into developing plugins for functional languages - there is a definite place forming from them in the new era of “agency” oriented programming - Scala would be one of them.

Arun,
The Scala plugin is already in active development. See http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?id=1347
