IntelliJ IDEA 8 Milestone 1 Is Here

It is really a lucky concourse of circumstances that today, 8/8/08, we’re releasing IntelliJ IDEA 8 Milestone 1!

This release is a preview of IntelliJ IDEA 8, which is due out by the end of Fall 2008.
Milestone 1 demonstrates greatly extended support for modern technologies, frameworks and languages, plus noticeably better IDE performance.
Here’s the list of major new features that are already available to try out:

  • JBoss Seam Integration
  • Javascript/Flex Debugger
  • Greatly improved performance
  • Spring 2.5
  • FreeMarker, Velocity, GWT 1.5
  • REST WebServices support
  • Struts 2
  • Multi-dialect SQL Console
  • New Java refactorings
  • Even smarter code completion
  • Numerous new code inspections
  • and many more

    Any plans to put in first-class Wicket support in Intellij 8?

    Please support multiple flavours of IDEs for different technologies(like Eclipse):
    IntelliJ IDEA for Java
    IntelliJ IDEA for Java Server
    IntelliJ IDEA for Ruby on Rails
    etc.

    Improve IDE GUI. It responds so slowly sometimes, repaint issues also take place under some circumstances.

    Last year you had this great “free upgrade to v. 7.0″-offer: “Buy 6.0 now, get 7.0 for free”. Will you do the same this year for 8.0?

    Trejkaz,
    There are people who are focused, for example on Rails or Python development. They will surely find a dedicated IDE more attractive, because it’s lighter and does not bother you with features you don’t need.
    Of course, there will be the full edition of IntelliJ IDEA that supports all the languages and technologies - for those who’s working with mixed-language projects.
