IntelliJ IDEA 11 Early Access is Open to Public
September 20th, 2011 by Eugene ToporovIf you are our regular reader you already know that IntelliJ IDEA 11 is being actively developed. We could not help ourselves and some new features have been already announced. You could’ve spotted the new codename too. It’s Nika! Please welcome!
So, IntelliJ IDEA 11 public EAP program is officially open!
Download the EAP build for your platform.
Following the tradition we’ve improved virtually every part of the IDE: the interface, the code editor, many of the supported technologies and frameworks got some love, and of course IDE performance. You are welcome to read the top-level list of changes available in this EAP build.
The development team will be detailing certain features here in the blog in the following weeks tagging them with ‘Nika’ tag, so stay tuned for more interesting stuff soon.
And of course we rely on your feedback a lot. Please submit your ideas and impressions on our EAP discussion forum and file requests to the issue tracker.
Develop with pleasure!
The JetBrains Team

Great news! I am _so_ looking forward to another EAP round.
Finally living on the bleeding edge again
The highway logo is a little unfortunate, me thinks:
A highway _exit_ provokes the idea that IDEA 11 is getting slower.

What about the license price ? Will this be comparable to the 10 version ?

Still no Mercurial love?

Also any release dates of the PHP plugin? AFAIS it’s not available in the current list of plugins, and @Stephen, if anything IDEA 11 is faster, try it, after the first indexing it started instantly.

@Stephen: Don’t read too much in a simple picture
Otoh, it’s just a highway…you do not want to stay on it forever…and the exit can lead to anywhere you can imagine
@jan: yes, the pricing will remain comparable. there are no plans now to change it.
@Dan: there’s been a number of improvements. And there will be more

The support for Lion Fullscreen seems promising as I really have workspace with very few clutter and this reduces it even more. But the behavior with multiple projects open is just terrible. I understand that it may be a fault on Apple’s side as it also happens in other applications. But there might be a way to workaround them.
1) Keyboard shortcut for switching windows does not work (had to create shortcut for switching projects)
2) You have to enter fullscreen for every project
3) Each project window occupies a separate workspace
4) The terrible disrupting animation when switching the windows
Still hopping that Apple fixes this totally unusable feature including multi display support.

When opening an old Mercurial - non IntelliJ - project, the dialog “checking …. changes” stucks. No way to kill it.
Maybe I have to clone the repository with Intellij first ?

Could anyone tell me what’s happening exactly with the PHP support within IntelliJ IDEA 11 EAP? Is there going to be a plugin available to add the same functionalities as in PHPStorm? If not then… Why? I wouldn’t like having to buy both IntelliJ IDEA and PHPStorm…
Thank you

@R. Cyr: PHP support have been unbundled from IntelliJ IDEA distribution, but we will continue providing PHP plugin for IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate with functionality equal to PhpStorm. The plugin will be available for download from our plugin repository.

@Jan: That shouldn’t happen. Please fire a bug on http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/ with the steps to reproduce the problem, and we’ll try to investigate and fix.

Any idea on how to get the Scala plugin to work with the EAP?
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:27 pm
@Jamal you can try EAP builds of plugin from http://confluence.jetbrains.net/display/SCA/Scala+Plugin+Nightly+Builds+for+Nika

Any idea on when the PHP plugin will be available in the repo for IDEA Ultimate 11? Cheers!

I hope Subversion 1.7 support is in the pipeline. It delivers some substantial gains for our developers. The Eclipse users in our team are expecting to realise those improvements in their IDE shortly, I hope the rest of us will be able to do so as well.

What about PHP plugin? Are there plans to add it to the plugin repository?
P.S. thank you for new version, it’s great.
