@Leon: JetBrains never announces in advance when the "buy the current version and get a free upgrade to the next version" offer will happen. Below is the link to the blog post announcing the sale last year (for 10 & 11). *If* JetBrains does such a sale again, I would *suspect* it will be about the same timeframe. But again, that's just a guess.

LAST YEAR'S ANNOUNCEMENT:

@xBlackCat: If you've already installed the current PHP plugin and it doesn't seem to be working (e.g. unable to read PHP file contents) simply uninstall en reinstall it. Should do the trick.

Darren, we're constantly working on performance issues. In fact, IDEA 9 or 10 is in many cases slower than IDEA 12. The most effective way of ensuring that a particular issue you're experiencing gets attention is to notify the developers of it as described at http://devnet.jetbrains.net/docs/DOC-192. If you haven't done this already, please do.

Great to have new features, but that is not the major reason for getting a new version of Inteli J IDEA.

For us and many former colleagues it's performance of Inteli J IDEA, NOT new features!

90% of development should be on performance enhancements/fixes.

We would HAPPILY upgrade for performance enhancements.

Inteli J IDEA is magnificent, but members of my team want to use other IDE's due to performance. They agree its better on the most part, it's just it can become slow when developing (show methods in class, typing etc). This has increased as more features added. We have found specifying more memory in the 64bit VM properties file makes things go slower and have removed as many plugins as we can. Are machines are around £1,700 with SSD and SATA hard disks, 8gb memory so performance should not be an issue.

At the moment we are preying performance will be vastly improved, otherwise we will reluctantly move to another IDE... I do not want to move. Maybe we need Inteli J IDEA 9 or 10 for speed?!
