March 14th, 2008

Dear JetBrains Omea Users,

We are pleased to finally come to you with these news.
We know that many of you were waiting for this to happen for so long, and we would like to thank you for your patience.

So, after several months of thorough work on polishing the software itself and its API, we are happily ready to announce the full availability of our “Omea” line of products in their open-source incarnation.

We hope that this step will allow us to rise the development of this great product to a new level and to attract energy and talents of everybody who likes to participate in this “adventure”.

Omea - both source and companion files - is now distributed under GNU GPL v2 License (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html)

For technical details, please visit the dedicated Confluence page: http://www.jetbrains.net/confluence/display/OMEA/this+link

All the best!

Save user’s history to access ICQ conversations in Omea Pro

August 3rd, 2005

In some versions of ICQ have the Save user’s history option is usually turned off. If this option is disabled, you can’t access your instant message conversations in Omea Pro because the messages are not saved in ICQ database, and thus nothing is imported in Omea Pro.
To turn this option on:

  1. Start ICQ, then navigate to a contact in you Contacts list for which you want to turn this option on.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • right-click the contact name and select Message History>View Message History
select New Message and click Show/Hide history
  3. Check Save user’s history.

You can later uncheck this option if you don’t want your conversations with some people appear in Omea Pro (but remember, they won’t be saved in ICQ database as well).

Always stay up-to-date with your tasks

August 3rd, 2005

Omea Pro has a set of predefined Views for Tasks which eliminate you from filtering the Tasks manually. The entry point is the Views and Categories pane of the Tasks tab.

    • In Progress View for Tasks in the Views and Categories pane shows you all your tasks currently in progress (but not completed).
    • To see all your Completed tasks, click the Completed View in the Views and Categories pane.
    • To see all your Tasks at once, click All Tasks View.

Turning on and off Annotations Viewing

    August 3rd, 2005

If you select the View Annotations command from the View menu, the Edit Annotation window is displayed whenever you select some annotated resource in the Items List. Turning this option on will allow you not to click the Annotation column or move the mouse pointer to the Annotation column every time you want to see the annotation text.

Changing the Omea Pro’s database path

    August 3rd, 2005

We recommend you to define that database path setting once only - during the initial setup (when you come through the startup wizard).

If you change the already existing database path in Omea’s options, you will simply loose your data.
Here is the approach that we offer: before changing the database path, you have to copy and save the already existing database in a new folder where you want Omea to keep the database from now on. If you haven’t done it, no surprise that you will loose your data (because Omea simply cannot transfer it to the different location automatically once you change this setting).

    July 21st, 2005

If you create a particularly useful Advanced Search or Basic Search, the results of which you will want to access again and again, you can convert the search results to a View.

    1. Run either Basic or Advanced Search.
    2. Find the Search result icon in the Views and Categories pane, right-click and select Convert to View.

Now this set of resources will be accessible with a single click.

Search in This… folder, feed, newsgroup

    July 21st, 2005

To make the Advanced Search easier, we have done much of the work for you. Now you can select an Outlook folder, feed, or newsgroup in the appropriate pane, right-click it, and select Search in This… (Folder/Feed/Newsgroup).

After the Advanced Search dialog opens, all you need to do is to type the word to search for and press Search.

To select more than one Outlook folder, feed or newsgroup, press and hold down Ctrl or Shift.

Quick access to a resource which you use often

    July 20th, 2005

You may come across the situation when you access some of your resources many times a day. Perhaps you want to keep track of what happens on a certain web site, or a newsgroup or feed. Shortcuts give you one-click access to such resources without the need to switch between different tabs, workspaces, Categories and Views.

    1. Select any resource in the Items List or the resource pane (Outlook Folders, Newsgroups, Feeds…).
    2. Drag it and drop to the Shortcuts bar.

You can reorganize, rename, or remove shortcuts any time. From the Tools menu, select Organize Shortcuts and make any necessary changes in the dialog that opens.

    New newsgroups on a newsserver

    July 20th, 2005

You have subscribed to some newsgroups but you know that the world never stops and changes take place all the time. The same is true for Omea. Once you are subscribed to a newsserver, and some newsgroups appear in it, you don’t need to remember what groups existed on that newsserver. No more scanning the list of newsgroups trying to figure out what’s new. Omea will keep track of it.

    1. Select a newsserver in the Newsgroups pane or right-click in some free space of this pane and select Manage Newsgroups or click Manage Newsgroups on the News toolbar.
    2. In the Manage Newsgroups dialog which opens, select the desired newsserver and navigate to the New tab of the right part of this dialog. If some newsgroups appeared on this server, the number of the new newsgroups is near the “New” tab name.
    3. Click this tab and subscribe to some newsgroups if you want.

Сopy Omea’s database and transfer it… to a different location or machine

    July 20th, 2005

If you want to use Omea’s database on a different machine, all you need to do is to copy the database files which contain all information about your resources, and next time you install Omea, you have to point it at this location.
Your first step will be finding the existing Omea’s database on your machine and copying it to some different location. The database path is set in Omea’s options (Tools>Options>Paths>Database Path). Navigate to the directory which is specified in Database Path, copy the database file and save it to a different location.
The second step is “forcing” Omea to use this database next time you install it. When you have completed Omea’s installation, you are asked to specify the repository where your database will be stored. Click Browse… to navigate to the directory where the database (copied from another machine) is stored and select the database folder. After that click OK to close the Database Path dialog box and come through the startup wizard as usual.
